Sunbeds, Spray Tan & Pregnancy: Is it safe?

At the Tanning Shop, our commitment to responsible tanning guides every aspect of our operations, prioritising the safety of our customers above all else.
Can you go on a sunbed when pregnant?
For the safety of expectant mothers, we strictly prohibit the use of our UV tanning equipment during pregnancy. If you suspect you may be pregnant please cease use of any sunbed or UV tanning equipment as a precautionary measure. There are no official studies on the effect of UV rays on an unborn foetus but it’s just not worth the risk!
Can I use an automated spray tan booth while pregnant?
For those considering spray tanning, we adhere to a cautious approach. We do not permit individuals in their first trimester to use our spray tanning booths under any circumstances. However, if you’re in your second or third trimester and wish to use our booths, we require you to sign a disclaimer form in-store, ensuring informed consent.
For those who prefer using fake tan over sunbeds, an automated spray tan offers a great alternative for expectant mothers as it is a quick and effective way to cover those areas that have now become harder to reach!
I have used a sunbed and now found out I am pregnant, should I be worried?
Although there are no studies which have investigated the direct effect of sunbeds during pregnancy, sunbed use is not recommended. If you have any concerns please speak to a medical professional.
Outdoor tanning while pregnant
Some individuals may also find that their skin becomes increasingly sensitive to UV light during pregnancy, we would also recommend taking additional care when spending time in direct sunlight.
