At The Tanning Shop we pride ourselves on offering responsible tanning solutions across all of our stores and we adhere to The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010, which prevents persons under the age of 18 from using sunbeds. That is why we enforce the Challenge 21 policy. If you are lucky enough to look under 21, we will ask you for proof of age in store before we will allow you to use UV tanning equipment. Please don’t be offended if you are asked, this is for your safety.
If you are asked then the ID, we accept the following photo ID is
– A Passport
– Driving License
– PASS card
All forms of ID must contain your date of birth and not be expired.
But why do you need to be 18 to use our UV equipment?
The Sunbeds (Regulation) Act 2010, passed by the UK Government, came into force on the 8th April 2011, and ruled that no persons under the age of 18 were permitted to use UV tanning services, to purchase UV tanning services or to be present in same zone/ room as UV Tanning equipment.
N.B. Persons under the age of 18 are able to use spray tanning services at The Tanning Shop (Under-16’s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian).
My child is under 18, can I bring them with me to the Tanning Shop?
While we do allow children in our reception area, this is only if they are deemed able to care for themselves. Please note we do not accept any responsibility for any children left in the reception area. Under no circumstances can a child under the age of 18 accompany you into the individual tanning cubicles.
As a proud member of The Sunbed Association, who represent tanning salon operators in the UK and Northern Ireland, you can be reassured that we are doing all we can to ensure our customers tan responsibly and receive reliable information from trained staff about responsible use of UV equipment tailored to their skin type.
